The Flex Program
At MODA, we know every student learns differently, and families have busy, unique schedules. That’s why we offer Flex, an online learning option designed for students who have demonstrated success in a virtual learning environment and thrive with greater independence, motivation, and the support of an engaged Learning Coach. Unlike the standard MODA program, which includes a full schedule of live classes, Flex provides families with greater flexibility to structure learning around appointments, athletics, arts programs, travel, or other commitments while continuing to meet important academic expectations. Admission to Flex is based on eligibility requirements and school approval, and students must continue meeting program expectations to remain enrolled.
What is the Flex program?
Families in the Flex program follow a structured curriculum while having greater flexibility in how they schedule their student’s learning day. Students have access to coursework and recorded class sessions, allowing them to complete much of their learning on a schedule that works best for their family. Throughout the year, certified teachers monitor progress, provide support, and ensure students remain on track academically.
Flex offers flexibility, not fewer expectations. Students are expected to log in daily, stay current with coursework, attend required live sessions and check-ins, and participate in all required state testing, interventions, progress monitoring, and special services. The flexibility is in when and how students complete their assigned learning while continuing to meet all academic and school requirements.

Whether your family is balancing appointments, competitive athletics, fine arts, or other commitments, Flex provides the opportunity to complete coursework at times that work best for your student while staying on pace with instruction and meeting all program expectations.
Stay on Track With Support
Flex students are not required to attend most daily live instructional classes, giving families greater flexibility in how they organize each school day. However, students are required to participate in designated live sessions, including homeroom, student check-ins, social-emotional learning sessions (where applicable), state testing, interventions, progress monitoring, and any required Special Education, English Learner, or related services. Students also have access to recorded instructional sessions and additional teacher support whenever needed and may transition back to the standard online learning program if Flex is no longer the best fit.
High-Quality Education, Greater Flexibility
Flex students receive the same rigorous curriculum, certified teachers, and high-quality instruction as students in the standard MODA program. They participate in required assessments, receive all required support services, have access to recorded instructional sessions, and can participate in school programs, clubs, and activities. Flex provides greater flexibility while maintaining the same academic expectations and commitment to student success.

Comfortable communicating with teachers when they need support
Supported by an engaged Learning Coach who regularly monitors progress and communicates with school staff
Students with IEPs, English Learner plans, or other required supports will continue to participate in all required services outlined in their individual plans.
Flex Student Requirements
To remain in the Flex program, students must continue demonstrating that they are successful in this learning model. Students are expected to log in to the online learning platform each school day, maintain satisfactory academic progress and passing grades, complete assignments on time, and remain current with coursework. Students must also attend all required live sessions, including homeroom and student support sessions (when applicable), state testing, interventions, progress monitoring, and any required Special Education, English Learner, or related services.
Learning Coaches are expected to remain actively engaged by monitoring student progress, maintaining communication with teachers, and supporting their student’s success throughout the school year. Student progress is reviewed regularly, and students who do not consistently meet Flex expectations may be transitioned back to the standard online instructional model.

Flex Learning Coach Expectations
Learning Coaches play a critical role in student success by:
- Establishing consistent daily routines and monitoring learning time
- Monitoring assignment completion and helping students stay on pace
- Maintaining regular communication with teachers and school staff
- Encouraging students to become independent learners while providing appropriate support
- Teaching students how to advocate for themselves and ask teachers for help when needed
- Celebrating progress while allowing students to learn through productive struggle
Flex & Graduation
Flex students earn the same MODA diploma as other students; transcripts do not indicate participation in Flex.
Graduation requirements are identical for all students, as set by the state.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Flex different from the standard program?
Flex students manage much of their daily learning schedule with support from their Learning Coach. Unlike the standard MODA program, Flex does not require attendance in most daily live instructional classes. Is the curriculum the same as standard MODA?
Yes! Flex students use the same online platform, curriculum, and grade-level courses as standard MODA students. They also have access to social emotional learning and may participate in all clubs and social opportunities offered at MODA and K12.
Can students mix Flex and standard MODA?
No, students must choose one program. Families should consider how important live online class sessions are to their child’s learning. They should also consider their student’s independence and ability to stay consistently on track without live, in-class support.
Do siblings need to enroll in the same program?
No. Families often have one child in Flex and another in the standard program, depending on individual learning needs.
What if Flex isn’t the right fit?
Students can transition back to a traditional, structured class schedule if Flex isn’t working for them. The change can be requested by the family or initiated by the school. Students who don’t meet the requirements for staying in Flex may also be transitioned back to standard learning.
Who is eligible for Flex?
Flex is designed for students who have demonstrated success in a virtual learning environment. Eligibility is based on several factors, including consistent course progress, academic performance, engagement, attendance, Learning Coach involvement, and school approval. Prior grades, benchmark assessment data, and other student information may also be considered during the approval process.
